Methodology

 

 The goal was to identify shops and then qualify using common terms.  This can be difficult but a strong indicator for the "profile" of a shop can be found in the Brands offered. 

  • "Top 4" this means does the shop offer one or more TreK Specialized Giant or Cannondale?  If "Yes" we call this  Top 4
  • "Next 6" this can change when you consider a Road or Pro Shop would have some brands while a "Family" shop would have a different selection. In 2019 the next 6 could be Cervelo, Santa Cruz, Electra, Kona, Scott, Felt.  They could also be Fuji, Raleigh, Pure, Pivot, Niner, or Salsa.  This category is an opinion and changes with time and client. But they will not be offering a "Top 4" brand.
  • "The Rest" the Bicycle Industry has 50 plus legitimate brands and what isn't "Top" or "Next 6" go into this category. Here are some IBD brands I track...Blue Competition Cycles 2016`BMC 2019`Breezer 2019`Fuji_2018`Haro 2017`Ibis 2017`Intense 2018`Jamis 2019`KHS 2018`Linus 2019`MARIN 2019`Masi 2019`Moots 2019`NBDA 2018`Niner 2018`Norco 2019`Orbea 2019`Performance 2018`Pinarello 2017`Pivot 2019`Public 2015`Pure 2018`Raleigh 2017`Rocky_Mountain 2017`Salsa 2018`SE Racing _2018`Stages`State`SunSeeker`Surly 2018`Transition 2019`Van Dessel`WaHoo 2018`Yeti 2019` But they will not be offering a "Top 4" brand or a "Next 6".They will be unique.
  • Here's where it can get interesting.  Combinations of brands can further identify opportunity and potential.
